Marie A. Fortini, PhD YA
With almost 15 years of yoga teaching experience, Marie is dedicated to helping people unaccustomed to exercising regularly in becoming more comfortable working with their bodies. Major focus is on stress relief and and in assisting clients with creating their own wellness practice.
A serious ankle injury prompted Marie in becoming a certified yoga teacher. Not particularly well coordinated to begin with, after the injury, at 5'10'' she especially felt like a bull in a china shop in most crowded yoga classes. So, during the final stages of finishing her PhD at New York University, shortly after 9/11, Marie attended The Omega and Nosara Institutes' 200 hour Interdisciplinary Yoga Teacher Training™ program. She is also certified in Restorative Yoga, Yoga Fit™ for Seniors, and has taken advanced training in Yoga for Addiction and in making Yoga Accessible for everyone. She includes yoga in her prayer practice, adapting yoga flows with familiar prayers, such as "The Lord's Prayer," for chair and floor formats.
Marie is also a Reiki Master. She combines Reiki with Restorative Yoga sessions or can provide either separately, depending on client need and preference.
Marie is available for group and individual classes and sessions.
